Acupuncture for Women’s Health

A woman’s body constantly changes throughout its lifetime, evolving both physically and biologically in preparation for each of life’s different reproductive stages.

These changes are complex and often challenging and their effect can’t be underestimated. But in very simple terms, they can be defined in three phases, with puberty bringing menstruation, the first sign of the body readying itself for conception and childbirth, pregnancy heralding the active phase of reproduction, and finally menopause signalling the end of a woman’s natural reproductive cycle.

From start to finish, in a cycle that might routinely be expected to last for 30 to 35 years, the hormonal and chemical changes we endure as women are complicated and life-altering. So, it’s hardly surprising that natural biological rhythms that function perfectly are as miraculous as they are rare.

There are several health outcomes that result from the body struggling to maintain the harmony of those natural rhythms. They include PMS and other menstrual issues (including irregular or heavy bleeding, little bleeding or none at all), menstrual cramping, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and breast cysts, endometriosis, infertility and menopausal distress.

Acupuncture for women’s health has been shown by recent studies to have a positive effect on the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, the body’s internal process that keeps the female reproductive system balanced.
